Eurovision & Turin

In May of 2022, Greg and I, with our friends Brad and Tiffany, went to the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. It was our first big trip after most of the COVID restrictions were lifted, so we were very excited to get back to traveling.

Greg and I flew to Milan and spent 2 days exploring there.

A nice city with lots of shopping, but not my favorite place I have visited.

We then made our way to Turin by train to meet our friends. We stayed in a great rental between the Eurovision venue and the central part of the city.

I had always been told that Turin was the Detroit of Italy, which may be true, but my experience left me feeling it is much more. The area is responsible for much of the food and culture of modern Italy.

We experienced an amazing food tour with I Eat Food Tours. Chef Abram took us on a tour of the local market, and food scene. From coffee culture, to wine, to the fresh ingredients that Italians expect in their food, we got a great taste of Turin.

Unable to secure tickets to the live Eurovision Song Contest finals, we settled for tickets to a dress rehearsal for one of the semi-final performances. It did not disappoint. Music, pyrotechnics, and lots of singing, it was interesting to see the intricate production involved in creating the shows we watch on television.

We also toured the Palazzo Reale di Torino, a museum and armory that was the home of the first King and Queen of unified Italy. Also attached to the palace is the cathedral that houses the Shroud of Turin. Unfortunately, it wasn’t on display the day we toured.
